Harvesting is a sub-sphere available to all Player characters, with progression linked to your adventuring and crafting levels.
Purpose of Harvesting
Harvesting is the process of collecting resources such as Wood or Minerals, which are used for crafting. Harvesters can collect these resources individually, or group with other harvesters to increase the quality or quantity of their yield.
Harvesting Skills
There are no harvesting Classes. Instead, players can choose a Primary and Secondary Harvesting Skill from the following:
Lumberjacking
Mining
Quarrying
Reaping
Skinning
Resource Tiers
Harvesting resources fall into different tiers of difficulty. You must reach the appropriate skill level to be able to harvest from a tier. (each at every 100 skill points). In addition, there are rare resources occasionally found at each tier (except the first).

Harvesting Training and related details
Starting Out
To select your Primary and Secondary Harvesting Skills, you must locate a Harvesting Instructor (usually a Harvesting Vendor), who will offer a basic Harvesting Training quest, provide you with basic harvesting tools, and raise your skill level in your chosen skills from 0 to 1. [You cannot harvest a resource type if you have a skill level of 0 in that skill.]
Advancing in Levels and Training
As you harvest resources appropriate to your skills, you will raise both your resource-specific skill level and your general harvesting skill level. However, each skill level is capped at the top of the tier. You will need to visit a Harvesting Instructor (vendor), who will be able to supply you with instruction books which you can purchase and read. By reading a new instruction book, you will be able to continue to raise your skill level to the next tier.
You are also limited by your maximum adventuring or crafting level, and will not be able to access higher tiers until your character has reached an appropriate level in adventuring or crafting.
Harvesting a Resource
Before harvesting a resource you must:
Have a skill level appropriate to both the resource and the tier.
Have the appropriate harvesting tool equipped.
To commence harvesting, right-click on the resource node. Harvesting will commence (or you will receive a message saying you cannot harvest because of lack of tool or skill).
You do not require any further action. A visual display will indicate your progress toward completion of the harvesting, and when it has been exhausted you will be able to loot the node.
Node Depletion
All nodes have a maximum amount of resources which can be harvested from them. Your skill level, the type of equipment you wear and assistance from other harvesters in your group will determine how much of the resource you are able to harvest. This is called Depletion. It is not usual that a single player is able to fully deplete a harvesting node, but a single player is still able to gain a reasonable harvesting return.
Depleting a node gives you a greater chance of acquiring 'special' items during harvesting, but these are still able to be accessed solo.
Group Harvesting
This is THE way to harvest, the node does get depleted faster , but you DO get QUITE abit more out it.
The rules are as follows:
You must have the harvest tool for the resource being harvested.
Only the person initiating the harvest need the specific harvesting skill, everyone else use their General Harvesting skill.
The more the merrier
So pack those tools and take up 2 harvesting skills asap!
